Therapy isn’t for everyone, but here are a few places it’s been shown to work:

Controlling Anger

  • Symptoms of anger may include irritability, aggression, short temper, and reckless behavior.

Symptoms of anxiety may include tension, worry, fear, racing thoughts, physical symptoms, and avoidance of certain situations.

If these are interfering with daily functioning they may benefit from treatment.

  • It’s ok to get a little angry.

I come in when anger gets out of control, and starts affecting your relationships.

Problematic anger is often caused by a triggering event, challenging life experience, or trauma. We’ll work on desensitizing these triggers and making a plan to cope with anger in a healthy way, when it (inevitably) comes up.

Managing Anxiety

  • Symptoms of anxiety may include tension, worry, fear, racing thoughts, physical symptoms, and avoidance of certain situations.

  • Anxiety treatment can often just be a selection of coping techniques that help “calm” the patient when they’re feeling overly anxious.

I take a different approach, we’ll work together to find the root of the anxiety. We treat this issue to reduce the amount of anxiety you experience on a daily basis.

Moving Past Trauma

  • Symptoms of a traumatic experience may include flashbacks or nightmares about the event; avoidance of people, places, or activities that are reminders of the event; difficulty sleeping or concentrating; feeling on edge or irritable; and difficulty feeling positive emotions.

Traumatic experiences can have a significant impact on a person's mental health and may benefit from treatment.

  • Much like my preferred treatment for anxiety, helping a patient move past trauma is done by identifying and desensitizing the root of the issue.

The issue here could be a single traumatic event, or a collection of small events that build up to affect your quality of life.

Overcoming Depression

  • Symptoms of depression may include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness; loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable; changes in appetite or sleep patterns; difficulty concentrating; and thoughts of death or suicide.

If these sound familiar, and they’re interfering with daily life, they may benefit from treatment.

  • The first step to treating depression is determining the root cause. This can take some work but it helps inform the treatment modality or intervention that we use to get you back to baseline.

Once we’ve established the root cause of depression, we’ll work together to process triggers, and negative beliefs. Our goal here is to create a positive understanding of the self. Let’s make you your biggest fan.

Couples Counselling

  • I work with couples when they aren’t communicating effectively, when there’s conflict, or a lack of intimacy.

We work on increasing closeness and building friendship. We address conflict effectively and build a life of shared meaning together.

  • With couples therapy, the relationship is my patient. I meet individually with each of you to get a thorough understanding of what the relationship difficulties are from your independent perspectives. Afterwards, the three of us will meet together to establish what changes you want to see in your relationship. Evidence based treatment modalities will be used to assist you with achieving these relationship goals.

How to get started

Most of my clients come for one-hour therapy sessions at my office in Peterborough Ontario.

We meet anywhere from twice a week to twice a year, whatever works best until you don’t need my help anymore.

If coming to Peterborough isn’t convenient, we can work remotely over video conference.

FAQs

  • Depending on what you need, my prices range from $80 to $240 per session. Contact me directly to find out more.

  • Absolutely not. If therapy doesn’t work out, then you can just stop coming. There is no commitment to pay for a set number of sessions.

  • It’s my goal to get your mental health to where you want it. Some people find they’re ready to move on after only a few sessions, others like to come and chat infrequently for months.

I’ll work with your goals, if that means getting you on track as quickly as possible so that you can fire me, we can do that.

  • Park right behind my office, I’m saving a spot for you.

  • For your first session, 60 minutes is usually best. This gives us time to get introduced, and start to explore your goals for therapy. From there, we can chose a schedule that works best for you.
